A lot of plusses, a few minuses Jul 20, 2009 I've now had my pair for 2 years. There are plenty of things to like. Wonderful soft comfortable leather that is easy to break in and easily water proofed, grippy soles, a good tying system. But there are several things that keep them from perfection. 1) The tongue, while providing great comfort is so freakishly big that it sometimes gets in the way. 2) A lack of vibram in the soles causes faster wear than I would like. 3) Timberland's claim of "these hikers are ideal for multi-day backpacking as well as lightweight hiking" is an overstatement. There is simply not enough ankle support for backpacking. A fine hiker for gentle use on good trails and the streets of Europe. For anything more vigorous, you'll need something else.

Design change ruins boot integrity; no tongue gusset Feb 06, 2009 I was deeply disappointed to discover they had done away with the tongue gusset, as you say, which so compromises the wearability of the boot. The tongue is also narrower than before which REALLY begs for a bellows gusset. Upon first discovering this absent gusset I wrote the company's counterfeit department and sent them the new boots, made in Viet Nam, unlike my old beloved 15 year old pair (with the gusset) made in China, suspecting they were now being made improperly, only to discover it was indeed a design change! I would steer away anyone from trying this new poorly constructed boot which used to be so wonderful. Now rocks, grit water and cold air can easily get into the boot, the tongue slides side to side... Stupid fools at Timberland!!!

Rugged and Dependable, Durable too Sep 26, 2008 You can't be breaking your ankle out there on the open trail. These shoes aren't as heavy as they look and are super durable. They have lasted me a long time now and I expect them to last a lot longer. I'm very satisfied with what I got and couldn't have asked for more when shopping for hiking shoes. I'd recommend this defiantly for all you hikers out there (yes I know they're men's shoes and I'm a girl, but so what). You can't go climb a mountain with any ordinary shoe, really this is a great buy and its very protective of your feet. You barely feel all the rocks underfoot.

Euro Hikers No Longer a great shoe May 07, 2008 I've been a fan of the Euro Hiker for many years. In fact they had been my choice of shoe for many travels throughout the world. Unfortunately recently Timberland has changed the design of the shoe....for the worse. The old pair I'm wearing right now have a bellows tongue which serves to keep scree, gravel, and such from easily getting into the boot. Timberland has recently decided to remove that feature so now hiking/walking down any lose packed trail will result in rocks in your shoes. Its a shame...the Euro Hike used to be an awesome boot.

Timberland boots Jan 06, 2008 I purchased a pair for Christmas 2005 for my husband that hikes at least 5 miles per day in the local woods near us. They have weathered snow, water, and mud. The only thing that we have replaced are shoe laces on these boots. It is now January 2008 and he finally decided that maybe we should replace the current pair with another pair exactly the same. He said that these boots were comfortable from the first time he wore them and wouldn't have any other boot.
