Avoid Doc Martens made in China. They don't even compare in quality to the shoes made in England. They'll last you about a year or so before they start fallong apart. You can still find the originals from England.

I read numerous mixed reviews of this shoe on the Internet before buying a pair. My last pair were twenty years old, and I had worn them to a state of utter dilapidation. The old ones were of English manufacture, and I had read that the Chinese products were stiff and inferior. They are, in fact, slightly stiffer when new than the old ones were, and the detail of manufacture may not be quite as finished, but they are still excellent, comfortable and sturdy shoes. I am very pleased with them. I am saddened that they are manufactured by slave labor in China, but the quality of the shoes is quite good.

The leather is stiff, especially the thin cuff around the ankle, which is sized just right to consistently rub/cut into your ankle. Other Dr. Marten's I've had felt like I had a cushion of clouds.
