DMs are no longer DMs get Solovair Jul 14, 2008 I have worn DMs for years but no longer. I bought a couple of pairs three years ago and later discovered that they are now made in various locations in the East and as a result they are without question sub standard. Further to this, surely it isn't ethical for an English standard like DMs to be taken away from the people who made it great, but then that's business...isn't it? I now wear Solovair 8 eyelet boots. These are made in Northampton, England by one of the companies that made the original Air Cushioned Soles for DMs, they also have the fully welted soles which DMs do not. In a nutshell, if you want honest, best quality made in England air cushioned soled boots like the original ones you can remember, then you need to buy Solovair.
Love them! May 06, 2008 I had to go over a year without my black Doc's. It was agony, I love these boots. Once they are broken in, they fit like a glove. They last for years, unless your dog gets ahold of the ones you bought 6 months ago. The boots are sturdy and well made. Great for hospitality work unless you need non skids.
Great Boot Feb 28, 2008 Overall a great boot. It took a while to break them in but they are well made and look like they will last a while. I liked them so much that I bought another pair of black steel toe Dr. Martens.

Dr. Marten Wanna-Be Dec 27, 2007 I just got a pair for Christmas after talking about them to a family member. I got very excited looking at the box as I took the wrapping off but the box was notably light-weight. Then I noticed a visible difference in the boots not having touched them yet. They looked like imposters even at first glance. I am not a shoe or boot connoisseur or snob but I do know I like quality. Examining them confirmed my unexpected let down. The leather is a lower grade that doesn't ever break-in and the soles feel to be of a stiffly cheaper rubber that wears faster. I took a look at the label to find unsurprisingly that they were made in China. Buy a new pair (made after 2003) if your after the name without the same quality. Buy a pre-2003 pair if you want a better pair of DMs.
Durable and Comfortable Dec 17, 2007 I bought these for my husband who is as hard on his shoes as a teenager or worse. Docs seem to be one of the few boots that he can't destroy in 6 months, and he can normally wear them for about 2 years (mine last about 5 years or more for comparison). This boot seems to be just as durable if not better than his other Docs were, and the extra cushioning heel is a great bonus. The 'break-in' period for him is usually a week or so for his other Docs in the past, however these only took a day or two to get used to and he didn't get blisters on his heels. He loves the finish on the leather, and the leather itself seems to be more durable and thicker than some other styles he's had in the past. All said, I love these boots as much as he does, especially since I won't have to make him get a new pair for a long time. He's had them for 2 months now and they still look brand new, which is amazing for him. I highly recommend these boots for any man who is extremely rough on their footwear and needs durability and comfort.
