Typical quality Merrell product Dec 01, 2008 This is a decent looking, lightweight, comfortable, somewhat weatherproof and well constructed boot (although a bit pricey). The color "oak" is a cocoa brown distressed leather finish. I don't care for the distressed leather look in a coat or jacket but its not so bad in a shoe. With a little wear and tear you probably won't notice it anyway. The insole is a worthless little foam wafer with no arch or metatarsal support whatsoever. No matter, I take these out of all my shoes and replace with Superfeet or Powerstep insoles. The Polartec 100 lining is cozy even with a thin sock. The gusseted tongue is also nice to keep it from shifting from side to side however, the down side is that the gusset material is elastic which reduces the shoe's ability to repel water. If the forefoot is splashed or submerged your feet will get wet. The medium width is snug. If you have a wider forefoot you may want to look at Timberlands or some other roomier footwear. I have plantar fascia problems so the Merrell products with Vibram soles always work well for me.
